Akhal-Teke

One of the most outstanding features of the Akhal-Teke is its glowing or almost iridescent metallic coat. The Akhal-Teke's hair glows with a metallic effect not seen to this extent in other breeds, and is commonly cited as a breed characteristic.

Notes
The latest stud book (Book IX, printed 1993) shows the following color statistics on the current breeding stock:
Black 13.3% Bay/Brown 41% Chestnut/Sorrel 11.2% Buckskin 21% Palomino 4.7% Cremello/Perlino 2.3% Grey 6.5%
There are no white pinto or sabino markings found on the body. White on the face and feet is common and accepted however.
